What I Wore This Week :: Blake Von D

What I Wore This Week

This was a big week for me. It was my first week of law school! (…and my 25th birthday!) I’m super excited about this new phase of my life, but if you think that I’ll be trading in my fun, flirty digs for a stuffy, conservative new wardrobe…you’re sorely mistaken! You can just call me ‘Elle Woods’ from here on out. lol

I had a moment of panic when I got the email last week instructing me to arrive in “business casual” attire for the week, because honestly, I didn’t own a single thing that I felt fit that description. But when you have limited funds (you know how that broke grad student life is) and limited time to scrape things together…you get creative. I purchased a few staple pieces and mixed & matched the rest from items I already had in my wardrobe.

Here’s a recap from this week’s ‘Legally Blonde’ series…

Monday

I made a trip out to the mall in Metaire where I purchased this black and grey dress with a patent leather belt from Macy’s. I thought it was the perfect dress to make the perfect first impression. I paired it with a pair of black suede strap-up heels from Aldo. I added in a (conservative) pop of color with a faux alligator print bag (also from Aldo) that played perfectly off my blonde hair.

XOXO dress, $45 – Macy’s; Faux snake print bag, $40 – Aldo; Shoes, $44 (on sale) – Aldo

Tuesday

This was probably one of my favorite looks from the week. It was professional with just the right amount of “Blake”. The pants I purchased from Dillard’s. I paired this tailored pant with a black and white stripped, zip-front collared top and topped it off by tying a black waist sash (from a pair of Forever 21 shorts) into a bow for a little added detail. The fun of this outfit was the shoes. These tied-dyed like heels were the perfect splash of color!

Tailored pant, $40 – Dillard’s; Striped Button-up, $12; Tie dye heel, $44 (on sale) – Aldo

Wednesday

This look is what I like to call “Chic Librarian”. Lol. Instead of wearing this blazer the way the designer intended, I chose to create a mock wrap top and belted it with a thin patent leather belt. I finished the look off by adding a pair of fashion glasses I purchased a few years ago from Forever 21. I love to toss them on when I want to feign sophistication.

Fashion glasses, $6.80 – Forever 21; Tribal print blazer, $14.80, Forever 21; Snake print wedges, $50 – Steve Madden; Bubble necklace (gun metal), $15 – Cherry Bomb Atlanta

Thursday

By Thursday, I was back in a dress, but I wanted to have a little more fun this time. I paired this printed Forever 21 dress with a simple black blazer from H&M to create a polished look.

Printed dress, $24.80 – Forever 21; Blazer, $28 – H&M

Friday

Despite the instructions to arrive business casual for the entire week,  by Friday I was dying to put on a pair of jeans. What’s life if you don’t break a few rules from time to time, right? I went for an updated “old school” look with a pair of flair jeans and a vintage button up.

Vintage button-up, $3 – Goodwill; Flare leg pants, $24.80 – Forever 21; Leather platform wedges, $28 – Buffalo Exchange

Please kept trying to tell me that once I started law school my daily attire would consist of sweatpants and Spelman hoodies. To that I say…WATCH ME WERK! “When you look good, you do good.”

What do you think of what I wore this week?
