What I Wore This Week

It’s been a while since I posted a “What I Wore”…mostly because law schools/law school professors are sadists who derive pleasure from watching 1L’s suffer. Ugh! But anyways, I figured I would stop being negligent (see, I’m even starting to blog like a lawyer) and update you guys on what’s shakin’ in my closet. Sidenote: I’ve added on some new writers to keep you guys entertained when I’m being a total slacker. Be looking out for them!

So here’s what I wore this week…

Monday

You guys know I love me some black. Monday was no exception. I wore a pair of black harem pants from Forever 21 over top a black shorts romper (also from Forever 21) and added some visual detail with a vintage beaded vest that I purchased from Goodwill a few years ago. I chose to play off my skin tone by completing the outfit with a pair of brown leather platform wedges.

Black romper – $24, Forever 21; Harem Pants, $8 – Forever 21; Beaded vest – $2, Goodwill; Leather Platform Wedges – $28, Buffalo Exchange

What I Wore Today

M-I-C-K-E-Y  M-O-U-S-E!  That’s today’s theme. To celebrate the 70+ degree weather we had in NYC, I decided to have a little fun and wear my Mickey Mouse button up I thrifted for $11 from Beacon’s Closet.

I bought this shirt a few weeks ago (at the same time I bought this clutch) and I’ve been DYING to wear it*.

*I put on a pair of black shorts underneath to prevent a "wardrobe malfunction"

I paired it with a pair of butterfly print fishnets and a waist tie that I repurposed into a bow tie. I love this look because it’s simple, yet edgy. And it’s kind of a twist on the “sleep in your boyfriend’s button up” look…if my boyfriend was a really awesome hipster. Simple accessories–pearl earrings and a watch from Aldo–and I was out the door, on my way to enjoy this beautiful day!

Thrifters Anonymous

“Hi, my name is Blake and I’m a compulsive thrifter.” (This is the part where you’re all supposed to say, “HI BLAKE!” lol.)

I swear I didn’t plan on going thrifting today. My plan was to hit up one of my favorite places to buy shoes — Cherry Bomb — and get a pair of black heels. That’s it! Well I did that, but THEN I thought to myself, “Who buys shoes without buying at least one article of clothing? Besides, Rag-O-Rama is RIGHT THERE.” So I moseyed on down and I’ll be darn if I didn’t hit the jackpot!

Check out my finds:

Top – $12.50; Skirt – $10

The outfit was completely unplanned. I figured I would just pick up a couple random pieces and figure out what to do with it later. The shirt was the first thing I found and the minute I saw it, it was sold. Next I came across the skirt. I’ve been on the hunt for a blue jean skirt for a while now, but they didn’t have any to my liking. But when I saw the white one I figured I’d try it and see what happened.

In the dressing room, I often try things on together just to save time. (Even if I have no intention of ever wearing those two items together). When I did that I noticed…”Wow, both the top and the skirt have gold accents and I kinda like the way this looks. Actually…I LOVE the way this looks!”  And there you have it.

Thank you thrift store gods!

Thrifting in the City

I’ve been in NYC for the past couple of days (hence my blogging hiatus), and I just could not leave this city without visiting a few thrift stores. I was introduced to a place called Beacon’s Closet. This place had EVERYTHING! When I say everything, that’s exactly what I mean. I came across a pair of real…yes real…Manolo Blahniks. O…did I forgot to mention the amazing wedding dress I saw for a mere $24.95? The things people throw away in this city. Smh

Check out my finds:

Plaid Cropped Jacket – $10

I’ve become obsessed with sequins/beading. NYC did not disappoint!

Beaded Cardigan – $18

Between the great thrift stores and the things I bought in China Town for DIY projects (coming soon), NYC is making this move rather easy. I can’t wait!
