I played tourist recently and took a stroll through the city. (Yes, I take strolls in 6 inch heels. It’s the fabulous thing to do.) My new photographer snapped these gorgeous photos in the courthouse courtyard.

What I Wore Today

Black and I pretty much go together like peanut butter and jelly. I also go pretty well with breaking fashion rules. In fact, I hate most fashion rules. So, trust me when I say I didn’t have any problem tossing on these white sling backs after Labor Day. Sue me!

Today I rocked an all-black ensemble with a white slingback shoe just to add a little visual interest. (I was feeling kinda “Kanye-inspired”.) I paired my favorite black boyfriend blazer and a black racerback tee (both from H&M) with a pair of harem pants from Forever 21. The blazer retails for $32, the tank retails for $10, and the I got the harem pants on sale for $8.

What I Wore Today

Yeah, yeah. Where have I been? I know. Now that we got that out of the way. Let’s talk about what I wore today! lol.

I have to admit, I felt super cute today and so I figured today made for the perfect day to end my blogging drought. Because I just had to show you guys all the cuteness. lol.

I recently purchased this faux leather skirt from Forever 21. I had to take it and get the waist taken in, so I was super excited to get it back from the tailor and honestly couldn’t wait to wear it. I decided to pair it with my monogrammed varsity letterman from H&M and then added my favorite knit hat from GAP.

Faux Leather Skirt – $17, Forever 21; Monogrammed Varsity Letterman – $50, H&M; Knit Hat – $25, GAP; Black sheer tights – $3.50, Forever 21

Now, LET’S TALK ABOUT THESE SHOES!

I have been in love with Christian Siriano and his work from the moment I saw him on Project Runway. His attention to detail and his knack for creativity is just everything to me. So when he started doing a line of shoes with Payless a few years ago, I made sure to keep my eye on the collection so I could jump on the opportunity to own a pair. I recently came across the pair of suede faux snakeskin booties during a late night online shopping session and fell in love! I waited anxiously by the mailbox everyday (No, really. I did.) until they finally arrived. And they did not disappoint!

Faux Snakeskin & Suede Booties – $60, Christian Siriano for Payless

I thought these awesome shoes would be the perfect touch of detail for my look today and I have to say, I pretty happy with the way it all came together.

What do you think of what I wore today?

What I Wore This Week

It’s been a while since I posted a “What I Wore”…mostly because law schools/law school professors are sadists who derive pleasure from watching 1L’s suffer. Ugh! But anyways, I figured I would stop being negligent (see, I’m even starting to blog like a lawyer) and update you guys on what’s shakin’ in my closet. Sidenote: I’ve added on some new writers to keep you guys entertained when I’m being a total slacker. Be looking out for them!

So here’s what I wore this week…

Monday

You guys know I love me some black. Monday was no exception. I wore a pair of black harem pants from Forever 21 over top a black shorts romper (also from Forever 21) and added some visual detail with a vintage beaded vest that I purchased from Goodwill a few years ago. I chose to play off my skin tone by completing the outfit with a pair of brown leather platform wedges.

Black romper – $24, Forever 21; Harem Pants, $8 – Forever 21; Beaded vest – $2, Goodwill; Leather Platform Wedges – $28, Buffalo Exchange

What I Wore This Week

This was a big week for me. It was my first week of law school! (…and my 25th birthday!) I’m super excited about this new phase of my life, but if you think that I’ll be trading in my fun, flirty digs for a stuffy, conservative new wardrobe…you’re sorely mistaken! You can just call me ‘Elle Woods’ from here on out. lol

I had a moment of panic when I got the email last week instructing me to arrive in “business casual” attire for the week, because honestly, I didn’t own a single thing that I felt fit that description. But when you have limited funds (you know how that broke grad student life is) and limited time to scrape things together…you get creative. I purchased a few staple pieces and mixed & matched the rest from items I already had in my wardrobe.

Here’s a recap from this week’s ‘Legally Blonde’ series…

K.I.S.S. = Keep it simple [for] summer! That’s today motto.

What I Wore Today ft. Sugar Scout LA

Today is a special edition of “What I Wore Today”. I was recently gifted an awesome body chain from Sugar Scout LA and  I’ve been looking for the perfect opportunity to wear it. Well, instead of waiting for the opportunity to present itself, I decided to create one. That opportunity is called “Wednesday”. lol

Whether intricately detailed or a single strand design, body chains are a great way to add a touch of bling to an outfit or swimsuit. This particular chain is a simpler design that simply drapes over the neck and hooks around your back. And it’s actually named after me…how cool is that?!

I decided to pair the gold version of the Blake Body Chain–it also comes in silver and gunmetal–with a black tie-waist crop top from H&M, a pair of black harem pants from Forever 21 and topped it all off with my super bad a** platform wedges by Michael Antonio.

Check out how I put it all together below…

H&M black tie-top – $14.80; Forever 21 harem pants – $8.99 (on sale); Michael Antonio wedges – $50 (on sale); Aldo watch – $35

Because this design worn around the neck, I find that I like it best worn underneath my clothing as opposed to on top…a “surprise detail” if you will.

Like what I wore today? Head over to Sugar Scout LA and grab your own “Blake Body Chain”. Send me pics when you do!

What I Wore Today

It was nearly 100 degrees in NYC today! What better day to pile on the lace and sheer fabric?! And that’s exactly what I did!

Check it out!

The black, lace skirt you guys have seen before. It’s a Forever 21 find worn with a pair of black boy shorts underneath.

Now the shirt has quite the interesting story. I’ve been using Poshmark (in addition to my online store) to sell some of the items from my closet. In case you’re not familiar with Poshmark, it’s an iPhone app that allows you to buy, sell, and trade your unwanted clothing directly from your iPhone. (It’s sorta like Instagram, but with the option to buy.) If you have an iPhone and need to clean out your wardrobe, you should definitely download this free app today!

This sheer, polka dot crop top is a Poshmark find. I love it! Even with the neutral palette, it’s perfect for summer because of it’s open back and flowy fabric. Definitely one of my new favorite wardrobe pieces. The back is so much fun!

What I Wore Today

This past Saturday I made my first–and unfortunately, my last–trip to The Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturday. On the first Saturday of every month, The Brooklyn Museum opens it’s door to allow New Yorkers an opportunity to experience art and culture for free. Well, in true New York City fashion it has morphed into quite the fashion show. People pull out all the stops and leave no stone unturned.

Since this was my first time going, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as far as what other people would be wearing, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a simple play on the new color blocking trend. Taking full advantage of summer–and my new blonde hair *big smile*–I opted for a neon palette.

Satin Biker Jacket - Forever 21; Pop Squiggle Leggings – ASOS;
Platform Pumps – Cherry Bomb Atlanta; Neon Clutch – DIY.

I ended up having my picture taken by quite a few sites–one of which was Ebony.com, so there’s no telling how many places this outfit is floating around. But a special thank you to Claire from The Fashion Bomb for featuring me on her site again. Her readers always show me so much love!

DIY: American Flag Shorts

You’ve seen these shorts on everyone from Kylie Jenner to Solange. You could go out and buy them for $68 from Topshop…or you could make your own! I opted for the latter.

In case you missed it, I recently added a “Shop My Closet” section to my blog. (For all of you who have been asking to get your hand on pieces from my closet.) Well, I recently sold a pair of striped Forever 21 shorts that I never got the chance to wear because they were too big. The customer asked if I’d be willing to customize them for her, so I figured why not give these American flag shorts a try. I’ve been wanting to try it for months now anyways.

Here’s how:

Things You’ll Need – a pair of shorts, a paper grocery bag, an American flag bandana, scissors, needle & thread (or fabric glue), straight pins & an ink pen.

Using a paper grocery bag, trace & cut out a “template” of the area of the shorts you want to cover. Using your ink pen, lay the template over top of the bandanna and trace out the shape. Cut it out.

Next, place the newly cut out pieces of the bandanna on top of the shorts and then pin them in place with your straight pins. Hand stitch* the fabric in place. (*You can also use permanent fabric glue.) Once, you’ve secured the fabric in place…you’re done! Simple and to the point. Feel free to play around with the direction of the stripes. You can also cover the zipper section if you want. It’s all up to you. HAVE FUN!

As an added detail, I decided to add gold pyramid studs to the front and back pockets.

All done!
