What I Wore Today

Another day, another all black ensemble. At this point, I really can’t help it.

It’s a sunny spring day so I opted to show just a little bit of skin with this casually glam look created by pairing a simple asymmetrical maxi dress with a pair of studded sandals.

Maxi dress – $20, KnowStyle | Bubble Metallic Necklace – $15, Cherry Bomb Atlanta | Boyfriend Blazer – $32, H&M | Studded Sandals (Sam Edelman) – $16, Buffalo Exchange

What I Wore This Week

It’s been a while since I posted a “What I Wore”…mostly because law schools/law school professors are sadists who derive pleasure from watching 1L’s suffer. Ugh! But anyways, I figured I would stop being negligent (see, I’m even starting to blog like a lawyer) and update you guys on what’s shakin’ in my closet. Sidenote: I’ve added on some new writers to keep you guys entertained when I’m being a total slacker. Be looking out for them!

So here’s what I wore this week…

Monday

You guys know I love me some black. Monday was no exception. I wore a pair of black harem pants from Forever 21 over top a black shorts romper (also from Forever 21) and added some visual detail with a vintage beaded vest that I purchased from Goodwill a few years ago. I chose to play off my skin tone by completing the outfit with a pair of brown leather platform wedges.

Black romper – $24, Forever 21; Harem Pants, $8 – Forever 21; Beaded vest – $2, Goodwill; Leather Platform Wedges – $28, Buffalo Exchange

What I Wore Today

This past Saturday I made my first–and unfortunately, my last–trip to The Brooklyn Museum’s Target First Saturday. On the first Saturday of every month, The Brooklyn Museum opens it’s door to allow New Yorkers an opportunity to experience art and culture for free. Well, in true New York City fashion it has morphed into quite the fashion show. People pull out all the stops and leave no stone unturned.

Since this was my first time going, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect as far as what other people would be wearing, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a simple play on the new color blocking trend. Taking full advantage of summer–and my new blonde hair *big smile*–I opted for a neon palette.

Satin Biker Jacket - Forever 21; Pop Squiggle Leggings – ASOS;
Platform Pumps – Cherry Bomb Atlanta; Neon Clutch – DIY.

I ended up having my picture taken by quite a few sites–one of which was Ebony.com, so there’s no telling how many places this outfit is floating around. But a special thank you to Claire from The Fashion Bomb for featuring me on her site again. Her readers always show me so much love!

What do you think of what I wore to First Saturday?

What I Bought Today

CONFESSION: If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you know that I didn’t really buy these items today. Technically they came in the mail on Wednesday, but today is the first chance I’ve had to post a blog. So, now that we’ve got that little white lie out of the way….

I bought these items in anticipation of summer in New York City (which is AWESOME by the way!!!). Although winter has been relatively mild this season, I am officially OVER. IT. These purchases were my way of coping. lol

The thought of spring/summer always gets me really excited when it comes to fashion. Every summer I tell myself that I’m going to channel my inner Rainbow Brite, wearing lots of prints and patterns…and I never do. But this year I’m for real. No seriously, I am. lol. I’m counting on you guys to hold me accountable!

You can get these ASOS leggins and Forever 21 jacket here:

What I Bought Today

Since my birthday was this week, I’ve been spoiling myself a bit. ASOS and H&M have gotten a great deal of my money over the last couple of days.

Take a look at some of the things I bought! (Sorry, wasn’t quite up to “modeling” things today, but I’m sure these pieces will be featured in a What I Wore Today post in the near future.)

I’ve sort of become known for my–as one of my readers put it–”wicked wedges”. So you know when I see a pair of hot wedges, I compulsively click “add to cart”.

This pair I got from ASOS. I love the glitter and the added black detail on the platform of the wedge!

I also got these simple black lace-up wedges with a straw heel from ASOS. Trying to gear up for the fall.

I also got this cute overnight bag and a varsity style jacket from H&M.

I’ve been trying to get my hands on one of these for a while now, but I refused to buy one with some random letter on it. So how cool is it that I found one with a “B” on it?! It was fate!

Did you guys buy anything neat this week?

What I Bought Today

Well, I didn’t technically buy it today, but it arrived today. I purchased this asymmetrical draped tank dress from ASOS a couple of days ago.  It’s one of those pieces that people will either hate or love. I don’t think there’ll be much grey area.

I kept the accessorizing simple with black wedges from Fergie, black feather earrings and added a pop of color with a red leopard bangle.

I love that the dress has great movement and adds volume to my naturally thin frame without hiding my shape.

Alright…let me have it. Hate it or love it?

Work Hard, Play Harder

So, there’s this guy that you’ve been waiting to ask you out for the longest, and today he finally did! The only thing is he wants to go out tonight! You don’t have time after work to run to the mall to pick up something to wear…besides, it’s the first and rent is due. What do you do? Wear what you wore to work! Here’s out to take a totally appropriate work outfit, switch it up and knock his socks off.

“Work: Michelle Dress, $60; Forever21 Chancellor Career Jacket, $25; Forever21 Patent Pump, $25; Chanel Camellia Earrings, www.bagborroworsteal.com; Melie Bianco Pleated Clutch, $46; Play: Michelle Dress, $60; Peacoat by WetSeal, $22; ASOS Clutch, $58; Karen Millen Ribbon Detailed Heeled Court, $204; ASOS Sm Rose Studs, $6.80″

Unfortunately whoever created the workplace “dress code” had no imagination. So the color palette in this outfit consists of mainly neutrals with just a splash of color. A safe color mind you. Don’t go showing up to work in your hot pink sequined McQueen pumps! The dress is a basic figure flattering KNEE LENGTH grey dress. It’s fashionable, yet still conservative. But since it’s sleeveless you may want to consider wearing it with a blazer like the one I chose. I usually try to stick with studs at work, but these were just too cute to pass up on. They work because they’re a decent size and the fact that they’re a readily recognizable designer lessons the chances that someone will find them inappropriate for the work place.  For the shoes, I chose a basic patent pump. You want to be careful about the height of your heel. Too short says, “I’m unsure of myself” and too high says, “I’m a slut!”

Now, it’s time to “play”. First date outfits need to say, “sexy, but don’t come at me sideways”. I kept the same dress and paired it with a nice peacoat. Jackets always make for a dramatic entrance as you take it off to sit down for dinner. ;)Simple studs and clutch just big enough to carry anything you might need. (I’m not judging…lol.) The gold accents on the clutch accentuate the gold buttons on the jacket and the earrings. Here is where you can be bolder with your choice in color. Go for it! Sorta. You probably want to stay away from anything even halfway neon. A bit tacky. Your shoes? The higher the better! Heels work wonders for your butt and let’s face it, every man can appreciate good assets.
