SUMMER STYLE: Blonde Ambition

As many of you know, I recently dyed my hair blonde for the summer. And I have to say, I LOVE IT! Which is probably apparent by my numerous Instagram photos. (Hey, I’m allowed to feel myself from time to time. lol) I was literally counting the days until summer arrived because frankly I had grown bored with my hair and was dying to try on blonde for size. As soon as it was apparent that the warm weather was here to stay, I decided to take the plunge!

Anywho, several of you have asked what color is it and whether I did it myself versus using a salon. Well, here are the details on the process:

You guys know me, I’m a DIY kinda girl so naturally I had to extend that to coloring my hair. I headed to Duane Reade and purchased Dark and Lovely’s Light Golden Blonde. I dye my hair on a regular basis, but this was my first time going this light by myself. I was afraid of going too blonde because I felt that it would clash with my skin tone so I played it safe. Better to be safe than sorry, right? I didn’t leave it on very long–about 25 mins–and it came out an auburn color.

The color (and photo) were a huge Instagram hit, but it wasn’t quite as bold as I wanted it to be. So I waited a few days and decided to up the ante.

This time I purchased Dark and Lovely’s Luminous Blonde and was a little less apprehensive about the length of time I left it in. This time I got a much lighter blonde with a tint of red.

But after just a few days, my black roots had started to grow back in. And honestly, I still wanted to go blonder.

I allowed about a week worth of new growth to grow in and then headed over to the barber shop to start over. I usually leave my hair long enough that it will curl when I wet it, but this time I went super short and super blonde! I used Texture & Tones’ Lightest Blonde, added a booster and sat under the dryer for about 20 minutes. (Be prepared, it burns like the dickens!)

All my various shades of blonde over the past 2 weeks* have gone over quite well, but this latest shade is my personal favorite. It’s also been a big hit with the older crowd. So many cute little old ladies have stopped me to tell me how much they love it. What are your thoughts on my blonde transition?

*DISCLAIMER: I don’t recommend dyeing your hair as often as I did in such a short span of time, especially if you have a perm. The length of and frequency with which I cut my hair allowed me to feel comfortable taking the risk. Also, I wear leave-in condition in my hair every day thus there’s less chance for damage.

I say go for it! Now, I’m not sure I’m the best person to be giving out advice on exactly which shade of blonde to choose since it’s not really my area of expertise. I would HATE to have you walking around here looking crazy and telling people “Blake said it would look good.” haha. But whatever you choose…send me a picture!

Thanks Tonya! And I have to admit, being a blonde is tons of fun! This was supposed to just be a “summer look”, but I won’t be going back dark ANYTIME soon.
