1. How old are you? Where are you from?

29. I am originally from Macon, Georgia. After some time in Atlanta, New York and New Orleans, I am currently enjoying life in the Windy City.

2. I heard that you grew up in foster care. True?

Yep. From ages 8 to 18. I’ve chosen to be very transparent about that period of my life because it has played a major role in the person I am today. I  also want other women who are in (or have been through) similar situations to understand that they are not alone. It’s my hope that the shame and stigma we often feel as children who grew up in foster care will one day be a thing of the past.

3. What inspired you to start blogging?

I started blogging right around the time I was getting ready to graduate from college. I was so confused about what to do next with my life and more than a little afraid of the unknown. I originally used this space as a place to vent about (and hopefully get some clarity on) the things happening in my life. As my audience grew, I started to notice that people really responded to my budget friendly approach to style and fashion so I began to revamp the direction of my blog. Over the past 4 years I’ve continued trying to marry my need to inspire women, improve my writing skills and showcase my love of fashion into one cohesive voice.

4. I just started/would like to start blogging. Do you have any advice?

The hardest part of being a new blogger is just having the courage to start. So my first piece of advice would be…”Just do it!” Once you’ve gotten over that hurdle, the rest is just about finding your niche, being consistent, having a nice clean design, good quality photos, and most importantly, staying true to yourself. Building a readership takes time and it doesn’t happen over night. Be patient. Don’t compare your blog to other blogs, but also don’t be afraid to learn from the examples set forth by your favorite bloggers. Also, check out this post I wrote a while back with a few extra tips.

5. How do you balance a legal career and blogging?

Google Calendar! Every single minute of my day is planned out in advance. I’ve found that my time is much better managed when I know exactly what I’m supposed to be doing exactly when I’m supposed to do it. I block off free time for things like Facebook and my favorite TV shows and then do my best to stick to my schedule.

6. Do you model?

Not in any official capacity. I work with friends and photographers as they request and as my schedule permits. But if you’d like to use me for a project you’re working on, feel free to contact me!

7. I work for a brand and we’d like to send you something to feature/review.

In order to stay true to my personal style and to provide content consistent with my readers’ expectations, my blog policy is that all promotional items I receive are for consideration only and are posted as my schedule and editorial calendar permit. Items sent may not always end up actually being featured on the blog. If you’d like to discuss a sponsorship or partnership with me, please email me via my contact page.

8. How long have you been natural? How long have you worn your hair short?

I started transitioning back to natural in 2007. In 2009, after what I felt was an unsuccessful transition, I decided that a BC was in order. After my first BC, I grew my hair out for about 6 months before I came across a picture of Solange (back when she was rockin’ a TWA) and I completely fell in love. So I decided to BC again (much shorter than before). That was December 2009 and I haven’t looked back!

9. How do you get your hair so blonde?! What products do you use?

The perfect shade of platinum blonde can be quite elusive. I’m always tweaking my process in order to find one that consistently renders the same results. Currently I’m using a Clariol 3 product process that includes: 1) BW2 powder lightener; 2) 7th Stage Creme Hair Lightener and Pure White developer in 40vol. Click here to see my video tutorial. 10. I love your style! I would love to work with you!

Great! Let’s chat! Please see my contact page for more info.
